Back before the Ozarks became civilized by electricity, and even before that really, the Kickapoo Indian tribe lived happily on one side of the Pomme de Terre River and the new settlers and their families lived happily on the other side.They helped each other and all was well for a few years. But as more settlers arrived and all the land on one side of the river was already homesteaded by earlier settlers, things were set in motion to move the Kickapoo out of the region. I live on the Kickapoo side of the river now.
